Do's & Don'ts of Proposing During The Holidays

The Holidays are the best time of the year - and the best time to get engaged! According to statistics 40% of couples get engaged between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day. With the Holidays fast approaching, now is the time to plan your proposal if you are going to pop the question this season.
Here are POSIE's Do's and Don'ts for proposing during the holiday season.
DO understand your partner's expectations.
Here's the truth: not everyone wants a holiday proposal. Your partner might want their own special day free of other excitements so they can have a truly memorable moment. If you really want to proposal during the Holidays, make sure you know the following:
That your partner wants to get engaged
If your partner would prefer privacy or a party
If your partner is open to a proposal on a holiday

DON'T use the Holidays as a theme.
There is a fine line between taking inspiration from a holiday and just down right using it as a theme. Don't have the ring hidden in this years turkey feast, instead take a Thanksgiving themed cooking class where you can connect, learn, and enjoy delicious food before you take your partner to a beautifully designed autumn-inspired proposal set-up. Proposing during Christmas can be super fun - but no one wants to see you dressed up as Santa getting down on one knee in front of your family's Christmas tree. To embrace the Christmas spirit we recommend planning a sleigh ride that leads to a beautifully decorated tree farm with twinkling lights and a sign that says "Will You Marry Me?"!
DO have a private moment.
If you are proposing in front of your families, make sure to have a private moment afterwards for the two of you to connect and share in the excitement. If you plan to propose privately, whisk your partner off to a special location to pop the question. You will have a special moment between you two that will be uninterrupted where you can focus on your partner and your love.
DON'T forget to capture the moment.
Hiring a photographer may be the last thing on your mind when you are planning your proposal, but it is one of the most important add-ons we encourage you to have. You will want to cherish the memories of your proposal for years to come, so it's important to have high quality photos. Also- if you are planning on a private proposal away from you family, it is perfect to show them the photos afterward so they feel like they were in the moment with you.
DO take advantage of the season.
The holidays are the most beautiful time of year. We are lucky in Wisconsin to have snow - so use that to your advantage! Snow can be the perfect backdrop for your proposal and just adds a magical touch. Plan some fun winter activities prior to your proposal like sledding, snowshoeing, looking at Christmas lights, or ice skating.
DON’T pop the question in the snow without protection!
The last thing you want to ruin your big moment is losing your ring in the snow! Finding an engagement ring in the snow is extremely difficult. Make sure if you’re proposing outside in the snow to have either a rug under you or you’re on a snow-free flat surface. If neither are available, tie the ring to a string to ensure it does not get lost.
DO ask for help.
Planning a proposal can be super stressful, especially on top of holiday planning, purchasing gifts, and any travel planning. Ask for help by reaching out to a proposal planner to help bring all your dreams to life!
